Monitoring System Detects Environmental Threats to Data Centers

ASTON, Pa., October 5, 2015 – Unexpected events like power failure, flood and HVAC malfunction are hazardous to data centers. In addition, fluctuating environmental conditions like humidity and temperature can damage computer equipment and cause network inefficiencies and unnecessary downtime. Early detection of these threats can keep systems performing optimally and save thousands of dollars in equipment, time and productivity. The Infrastructure Monitoring System (IMS) 4000 from Sensaphone®, a leader in data center environment monitoring, provides low-cost 24/7 monitoring of data center conditions in multiple locations across the globe.

A new educational video is now available that shows how the IMS-4000 system simultaneously monitors data center environment and network devices with IP addresses, such as network links, routers, printers and servers. Each base unit supports up to eight environmental sensors to monitor critical conditions including temperature, humidity, smoke, sound level, motion, water leaks, intrusion and power outages.

Because it can monitor multiple locations, the IMS-4000 system is ideal for large and growing data centers. Users can expand their infrastructure by connecting up to 31 expansion nodes to the base unit. Each node can monitor eight inputs for environmental conditions or alarm contacts from other computer equipment such as UPS systems. In addition, each IMS-4000 system can monitor up to 64 network devices per host or node. When the system identifies a potential problem, it immediately sends alerts through Ethernet and telephone connections.

"Sensaphone is a pioneer in providing unattended monitoring solutions for data centers of all sizes to fit any budget,” said Dave DeFusco, vice president of engineering at Sensaphone. “The IMS-4000 system is the costeffective choice for larger and expanding facilities that need to protect their critical business services.”
