Sensaphone Offers National Institute of Standards and Technology Traceable Temperature Sensors

Assurance Program by U.S. Government Agency Validates Sensaphone Sensors are Accurate and Traceable for Temperature-Controlled Environments

Aston, PA., Oct. 15, 2013 — Sensaphone® announced the availability of temperature sensors that can be provided with a Traceable Calibration Certificate. The Traceable Certificate indicates that the product is traceable to standards provided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a U.S. Government agency within the Commerce Department.

NIST traceable calibration is an assurance program that certifies that a laboratory or manufacturer is fully equipped to calibrate equipment to NIST standards and that products offered by that manufacturer will match those NIST-maintained measurement standards.

“The requirements for NIST certification are stringent,” explained Dave DeFusco, Vice President of Engineering at Sensaphone. “NIST-certified temperature sensors give our customers assurance that the Sensaphone temperature monitoring solutions are accurate and traceable.”

Sensaphone solutions with NIST-certified temperature sensors help verify that frozen foods, medical tissue samples, or critical vaccines, are stored at the correct temperature.  Sensaphone NIST-certified sensors include:

Senspahone’s 2.8K NIST-certified sensors will measure and report the exact temperature back to the Sensaphone unit to which it is attached. The Sensaphone monitors can be programmed to trigger an alarm when conditions exceed the set high or low temperature limits.  The 2.8K Type NIST-certified sensors include:

  • 2.8K Temperature Sensor in Glass Bead Vial: This glass bead filled vial sensor will buffer any momentary fluctuations that may cause a preliminary alarm dial out, such as defrost cycles, opening of doors, and fans circulating air. The glass beads will slow the response time of the sensor allowing normal daily operations to occur without having an alarm.
  • 2.8K Weatherproof Temperature Sensor:  Perfect for harsh environments, the 2.8K Weatherproof Temperature Sensor connects to any Sensaphone monitoring system. This sealed sensor is recommended for wet and/or dirty environments. If the sensed temperature goes beyond the programmed limits, it will trigger an alarm on the attached Sensaphone system. A convenient mounting clip and 12' of wire are included. The sensors are accurate to ±1ºF (0.56ºC).
  •  2.8K Ultra Low Temperature Sensor: This sensor enables monitoring temperatures down to -85°C . The Teflon coated wire will withstand temperatures down to -85°C. It will measure and report the exact temperature back to the Sensaphone unit to which it is attached. The Sensaphone can be programmed to trigger an alarm when conditions exceed the set high or low temperature limits. It may be mounted anywhere air temperatures need to be measured and is suitable for use in extreme environments.

These sensors can be supplied with a NIST Traceable Certificate that includes all of the information to meet today's stringent accreditation demands, government specifications, and ISO 9000 requirements. This information includes serial number, test points, individual unit's specific test date, and tester's signature.
